Specialized Memory Care community the first of its kind in Franklin County.
Woodlands Senior Living, a Maine-based and family-owned organization providing trusted assisted living and memory care to Maine seniors, celebrated the grand opening of its newest memory care community earlier today: Woodlands Memory Care of Farmington. The specialized assisted living community provides personal care, services, and programming for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
The opening of the Farmington location marks the 12th senior living community and the seventh memory care specific location in Maine for the organization—and the first for residents and families in Franklin County.
“This facility joins a local healthcare system with a long and proud history. It’s exciting to have this level of professional memory care in our community,” said Farmington Town Manager Richard Davis.
“This is what we need,” agreed Governor Paul LePage, referring to the excellent senior living and memory care residences Woodlands Senior Living has made available across the state and in rural communities like Farmington. “We are the oldest state in America, so it’s very important we pay attention to our seniors. In addition to Governor Paul LePage and Town Manager Richard Davis, Executive Director of the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association Laurie Trenholm, representatives from Senator Angus King and Congressman Bruce Poliquin, as well as Woodlands Senior Living owners were in attendance and shared remarks.
Woodlands Memory Care of Farmington, located at 175 Knowlton Corner Road in Farmington, is a 20,000 square-foot community designed exclusively to address the unique needs of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related memory impairments. Thirty-six residents will be cared for by a team of specially trained and carefully selected staff within the intentionally designed, secure environment for living. Features include multiple common areas, expansive outdoor gardens and walking paths, and fully furnished private and shared bedrooms with private bathrooms. An expanded second phase including assisted living and private residence apartments is anticipated for the fall of 2018

Here in Maine, we currently have an estimated 27,000 living with Alzheimer’s. Nationally, we know that over 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease and that number is expected to grow to 60 million by 2015,” said Executive Director Laurie Trenholm of the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, applauding the organization’s leadership and commitment, and standard of excellence in dementia care and support. “We look forward to providing support for this wonderful new facility and all families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.”
